Heads up, we expect price increases for some Microsoft 365 licenses on 3/1/2022. As a result, you may experience changes in your billing. Read on to find out what’s happening.

Jared Spataro, Vice President for Microsoft 365, outlined the changes in a blog post. This is the first major price increase since Microsoft launched Office 365 a decade ago. It reflects significant product enhancements – such as 24 additional applications and more than 1,400 new features and capabilities.

Microsoft 365 Price Increases – What’s Changing

Below is a summary of the Microsoft list price changes coming in March. The actual amount paid by your organization will vary depending on your plan. However, you can use this as a starting point to understand where Microsoft is making increases.

Business Plans

  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic – increasing from $5 to $6/user/month*
  • Microsoft 365 Business Premium – increasing from $20 to $22/user/month*

Enterprise Plans

  • Office 365 E1 – increasing from $8 to $10/user/month*
  • Office 365 E3 – increasing from $20 to $23/user/month*
  • Office 365 E5 – increasing from $35 to $38/user/month*
  • Microsoft 365 E3 – increasing from $32 to $36/user/month*

*Note that these list prices are based on an annual subscription with auto-renew. Monthly pricing plans are subject to higher prices. Companies that don’t need flexibility when it comes to adding or removing licenses may want to lock in at the current annual pricing.

Exclusions to the Microsoft 365 Price Increases

According to Spataro’s post, “There are no changes to pricing for education and consumer products at this time.” Several licensing tiers are also excluded. For example, Microsoft 365 Business Standard is not slated for a cost increase on March 1.

If you’re not sure about the best option for your organization, I’m happy to discuss the pros and cons of various Microsoft 365 licensing tiers. Just send me an email. My goal is to identify the solution that gives your business the right functionality at the optimal price point.
